CAN WE PARY EID SALAAH IN OUR OWN HOME ? EID SALAAH AT HOME OR NOT?

*EID SALAAH AT HOME OR NOT?*

As Salamu alaykum Many people have been asking that due to the current lockdown situation, we are unable to go to the Masaajid, so can we perform Eid Salaah at home, as there are messages doing the rounds saying that people may perform Eid Salaah in their homes, if they have four people etc.

Even though I have explained this in one of the Ramadaan sessions, I want to re-iterate the following basic response without making it too complicated.

As per the ruling of the Hanafi Madhab, the conditions for Eid Salaah are the same as the conditions for Jummah Salaah, except that in Jummah Salaah, the Khutbah is a condition, and in Eid Salaah, it is Sunnat. Also in Eid, the Khutbah is after the Salaah, compared to before the Salaah in Jummah. This means that all the other conditions which are applicable to Jummah Salaah are applicable for Eid Salaah, hence just as Jummah Salaah cannot be performed at home due to some of the conditions not being met, likewise Eid Salaah also cannot be performed at home.

Rather, those at home should individually perform four Raka’at of Chasht Namaaz, and this should be performed when the sun has risen properly, and at the time when Eid Salaah is usually completed at the Masjid.

However, if you are liable for any Qaza Salaah, then perform these four Raka'ats with the Niyyat of Qaza, and be hopeful of Allah's Mercy, that He will bless you with the blessings of all your pure intentions for this blessed day.

The Chasht Namaaz is indeed full of blessings and not only on Eid day, but it can be read daily, and most certainly it will award one immense blessings on the day of Eid.

Tirmizi and Abu Dawud report from Hazrat Abu Zarr Radi Allahu Anhu and Abu Dawud and Daarmi report from Nu’aim bin Hammaad and Ahmed reports from all of them that Rasoolullah ﷺ said, ‘Almighty Allah says, O Ibn Adam! Perform four Raka’ats for Me in the beginning of the day, and until the end of the day I will answer all your needs (i.e. I will be sufficient for you)’.

It is reported in Sahih Muslim Shareef from Hazrat Abu Zarr Radi Allahu Anhu that Rasoolullah ﷺ said, ‘There is a Sadaqa for man (and) for every one of his joints (and there are 360 joints). Every Tasbeeh is Sadaqa, and every Hamd (Praise to Allah) is Sadaqa, and to say ‘Laa ilaaha il’lal laah’ is Sadaqa, and to say ‘Allahu Akbar’ is Sadaqa, and to command goodness is Sadaqa, and to forbid evil is Sadaqa, and Two Raka’ats of Chasht suffices for all of this’.

Hence, in this current situation, when there are strict restrictions in place, which we have no control over, we should perform the Chasht Salaah at home, and be hopeful of Allah's Mercy.
